“A sunny marathon” is how Alison describes life in Los Angeles. Like many working moms, her mornings are hectic and rushed, but she always takes the time to make herself a cup of pour over. Alison’s work features women engaged in mystical ceremonies, and her work-breaks feature cold brew and half and half from a local coffee shop.

With this piece, Harriet’s intent is to remind us that “even the most odd objects can live in harmony, and so can we.” She’s an every-morning coffee drinker, and used to work as a barista. Her favorite day of the week is Thursday.

Junghaendel
German, 1888-1898

Mark Katzman has one of the largest photogravure collections in the world. He’s also our dear friend and a world renowned photographer himself. In this photo, the photographer carefully composed local people amongst the ruins to make “pictures,” a rather artful approach for an architectural photographer from the 1800s. We can’t confirm if Mr. Junghaendel was a coffee drinker or not, but we do know that Mark drinks his coffee from capsules. We’re hoping to convert him soon.

For Karlotta, this is one of those special pieces, created in a friend’s kitchen while doodling and chatting. Although she didn’t know that illustration was a job until her late twenties, Karlotta never questioned that drawing had to be a part of how she would spend her life. Coffee is her favorite part of the morning, and she looks forward to her daily cafe outing with her husband every night before she goes to bed.

MarineBuffard
Paris, France

Marine is all about the small details in life. Walks with her dog, the way the sunlight hits her glass ceiling, good food, good wine…. It’s not surprising that she changes her coffee order to match the season, drinking cold brew exclusively in the summer. Marine hopes that the cyclical nature of her animations is calming and meditative.

Nico travels a lot for work, so when he’s home, he enjoys his little traditions. His morning coffee routine consists of a good cup of drip in the same hand-painted mug he’s had for over ten years, some croissants from the bakery down the street, and his gals. His pictures have that feels-like-you’re-there effect, so thanks to Nico, we can all feel well-traveled.

From Armenia to France to Italy, Sarah fine-tuned her skills as a passionate people watcher, obsessed with the chaos of crowds and the movement of people. Depicting what she observes on paper is second nature for her. Sarah has her priorities straight, always turning on the coffee machine even before saying good morning to her family.
